oceans began as a bedroom studio project in mid-2008 in a small flat in North Hobart, Tasmania. Influenced by early electronic music experimenters such as Alvin Lucier, Stockhausen, Varese and La Monte Young, the sound could be described as drone noise. An EP simply titled ‘oceans’ was released in late 2008, and in 2009 the debut album, simply titled ‘album’ – recorded live in a house in Sandy Bay, it combines glitches, pops and screeches with vocal drones and harmonies.
